| REDUCING
OUR RELIANCE ON FOREIGN OIL
As
gasoline prices continue to rise, hitting consumers at the pump, we
are reminded that we must move our country toward energy independence.
We should be spending our money developing biofuels in the midwest rather
oil in the mideast. This session, I supported tax deductions to corporations
that purchase hybrid vehicles and to extend the tax credit for private
individuals who purchase hybrid cars. I also voted to extend tax deductions
for the development and use of renewable energy, like wind and solar,
and pursue alternative forms of transportation that help grow our economy,
such as the Washington County Commuter Rail. In addition to working
to create more family wage jobs, we must also raise the federal minimum
wage to $7.25 and continue to stop the Bush Administration's attempts
to eliminate overtime pay for Oregon workers.
